About me

pbi picOver 25 years experience
I was born and brought up in the UK but have lived for almost half my life in Colombia. My Spanish is therefore Latin American and my English is British, but I am at ease working into and out of most of the varieties of Spanish and English that exist. I graduated in history from the University of Manchester. Before becoming a full time translator, interpreter, proofreader and editor I worked for many years in the field of development and human rights and taught occasionally in universities. I have been translating, interpreting and editing for over 25 years.

My first interpreting job: consecutive interpreting in London for Super Barrio, champion of the victims of the 1985 Mexico City earthquake.

“James has worked for us on several occasions, interpreting for major conferences, delegations and seminars. His translations are delivered to deadline and are always professionally produced. I have no hesitation in recommending his services”.
Nick Sigler, Former Head of International Relations, UNISON

“James has translated several of my academic writings. He is highly skilled and has an excellent knowledge of the language of the law and social sciences. In addition to his work as a translator, James is one of the best commentators I have had which means that working with him has become a most interesting academic and intellectual experience. He is a highly qualified reader and offers real value-added from an academic point of view”.                                Dr. Lina Fernanda Buchely Ibarra, Faculty of Law, Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá
